Lubrication

A custom-made lubrication is essential for the correct operation of the injection piston,

for its life span, as well as for good quality castings.

The lubrication of the piston has a history of its own. The lubricant is confronted to high temperatures of liquid aluminium, high velocity of the piston, variable gap caused by the expansion and the deformation of the plunger and the container, as well as harsh environmental conditions and strict work safety regulations. Following several years of research and development we are launching on the market the LubDrop system, which fulfils the most challenging requirements

-          longer lifetime of pistons, rings and shot sleeves

-          smaller consumption of lubricant

-          lubrication where needed only

-          cleaner working environment

-          better quality castings

Since 1993, powder or shot beads dry lubricants have been available on the market. They are dropped or blown through the pour hole of the container. Various other ways are also used, for example by introduction of lubricant on the die side or at the back of the container through a hole above the piston. In spite of these advantages, the environmental problem persists; formation of significant flames during the pouring of the liquid aluminium, possible fouling of the vacuum valves, etc.

The flexible ring mounted on the piston presses towards the interior of the container and the subsequent pressure and friction tends to take away low viscosity lubricants reducing the lifetime of the ring and container.

With all these problems in mind and based on its wide experience and know-how, ALLPER has perfected a vaporization system and developed a new high density lubricant allowing to spray very small quantities of lubricant into the interior of the container. This way, all the environmental problems are solved:

- The small use of lubricant guarantees constant and high quality castings.

- The system is applicable to every casting process.

- The ring-piston-container lifetime is greatly improved

- The ecological requirements are satisfied

System description

Thanks to the heat transferred from the container to the tube mounted at the back of the shot sleeve, can the viscose lubricant are portioned in small quantities and flow in a corrected sleeve round the ring. As soon as the piston is returned to its park position, the lubrication start signal (from DCM) initiates the automatic spraying program.

Conclusion

The Allper LubDrop lubrication system answers the continuous need to improve the quality of the castings and of the environment by spreading most advantageously only a very small amount of lubricant over the inner surface of the sleeve. It also greatly improves the lifetime of the wear parts - shot sleeve and ring-plunger system, and guarantees invariable quality and weldability characteristics for stringent structural elements.

The use of a purposely-developed high-density mixture of synthetic oil and additives contributes greatly to the outstanding casting quality achievable with the Allper LubDrop system.
